Super Bowl with Food Allergies
February 5, 2010

Each year, the traditions of the Super Bowl include the best NFL' teams, the most expensive commercials, the Half time show, and foods and drinks. Here are some good tips and solutions for an allergen-free get together celebration this coming Sunday afternoon.

The 44th edition of the NFL (National Football League) Super Bowl will be broadcast in less than 48 hours and Americans will gather to watch one of the most famous sporting events in the world. During the entire day, hostess will serve nibbles and drinks to their guests who will defend their favourite colours and players. Whether you are cooking or serving already-bake nibbles for your supporters, make sure to keep in mind that a small percentage of your guests may suffer of food allergies and food intolerances. Therefore, it is priory to read all the labels on each food and prevent cross-contamination to guarantee a safe environment for all your guests and fans of the Indianapolis Colts & New Orleans Saints teams.

Here are some useful tips for you to enjoy during the biggest sporting event, and to avoid visit to the Emergency Room.

•  For special tips and recipes, How to Plan a Healthy Super Bowl Party by Anne-Marie Nichols of This Mama Cooks is a good reference guide to follow for a successful Super Bowl Sunday afternoon.

•  For Gluten-Free drinks, Care for a Cocktail? by Kim Lutz and Megan Hart of Welcoming Kitchen, includes resources for your guests who follow a restricted diet.

•  For nut-free snack, refer to the Wheat Nuts® product review Nut-Free Superbowl Snacks posted on the Peanut Allergy website.

•  For a better understanding of food allergies, read the inspiring life story of Rich Gannon, first down star quarterback, How to Plan a Healthy Super Bowl Party by Alicia Woodard from the April/May 2008 Issue of Living Without Magazine.

With all those suggestions, your guests will be very thankful of your kind intentions. Enjoy the game, the foods and the drinks! Good luck to both teams!
