Emily Hendrix, a mother of three, is the author of Sophie-Safe Cooking and more recently of Sophie Safe Food Guide.
Here is a brief introduction from Emily Hendrix, the author and mother of an allergic child, about this new food allergy business.
‘I'm sure you've heard the old adage: necessity is the mother of invention. I've always loved this saying, in part because it seems to emphasize the creative and resourceful nature of women in general, and mothers in particular. About 6 1/2 years ago, I became a participant in the experiment of necessity and invention. When my daughter, Sophie, was diagnosed with allergies to wheat, eggs, peanuts, and milk AND we were instructed to avoid tree nuts, fish and shellfish as well, I stood for hours in the grocery store aisles reading label after label. On those days when I came home crying, with only a bag or two of groceries, I wished for a source I could go to, some place to research ingredient lists in the privacy of my own home. Despite my husband's years of experience programming computers, he and I both felt that this was completely out of reach; a project of this magnitude required more resources than we could summon.
Now that a few years have passed, we found ourselves friends with a SQL programmer, who was willing to get us started on our project. Funds from Sophie-Safe Cooking have paid for data entry, and Sophie Safe LLC was recently able to announce our new product, the Sophie Safe Food Guide. Born of the necessity that I felt 6 years ago, a visit to SophieSafeFoodGuide.com will aid you in your food allergy journey.
The Sophie Safe Food Guide is a database of grocery items that is searchable by allergen. After choosing from our list of several hundred allergens, you can search the database for foods that don't have the things you don't want to eat! A Basic membership to the Food Guide is free, so please try it today. As always, we are interested in your ideas so that we can improve your experience, so please give us your feedback. More functions and more foods will be coming to Sophie Safe Food Guide soon, but please try it today and let us know what you think.'
A visit to this new and innovative food allergy database will help you to make the right and safe choices for your family and members who suffer of severe food allergies and food intolerance. On your first visit, you will have to follow the steps to register as a new member, and then you will make your way through this innovative online resource to help you out to pick the safe foods to add to your grocery list. What a great way to facilitate your next shopping trip!
