Book: Everyday Recipes For Families With Multiple Food Allergies
March 8, 2010

Sharissa Greer, also known as Allergy Free Mom, shares over 115 recipes in her cooking book 'Allergy-Free for Mommy and Me: Everyday Recipes For Families With Multiple Food Allergies'.

Sharissa Greer, a mother of two, is the author of Allergy-Free for Mommy and Me: Everyday Recipes For Families With Multiple Food Allergies which includes 115 recipes free from the 8 of the most common food allergens. This cookbook was inspired by her personal life story as her younger son, Nathan, was diagnosed at an early age with multiple food allergies. After struggling with cooking healthy and safe meals for her son and family members, Sharissa Greer decided to create delicious and allergen-free recipes for the benefit of people living with food allergies, food intolerances and other restricted diets.

This guide is an essential tool to refer if you recently received a food allergy diagnostic or if you are seeking for delicious, healthy and easy to bake allergen-free and friendly recipes. The cookbook is divided into different chapters, and each section includes tips about food allergies. Dr. Frank L. McCafferty, Jr., M.D. from the Atlanta Allergy and Asthma Clinic in Atlanta, Georgia, United States, signed the foreword in which he explained and provided helpful information on food allergies' statistics, allergic reactions & symptoms, existing treatments and guidelines on how to deal and live with food allergies. Then, the author described her personal life story and explained how they found out about her son's first food allergic reaction and how they handled it. Finally, she compiled a list of groceries to buy, gave website addresses, named her allergen-free favorite products and included allergen substitutions for flour, bread, eggs, milk, oils & shortenings, pastas, rice, and grains, sugar, spices & herbs, and spreads, toppings, flavourings and condiments.

All recipes are free of dairy, eggs, fish, peanuts, shellfish, soy, spelt, tree nuts, rye and wheat. Vegan, corn and gluten free options are also indicated for some recipes along with food-coloring alternatives. The cookbook includes colourful pictures and clear step-by-step instructions to follow. Also, the author added her personal observations when cooking with certain substitutions ingredients and gave personal tips, and pointers to facilitate your allergen-free experiences! From breakfast, appetizers, salads, soups, entrees, sides, breads and crusts, sauces and dressings, desserts and cookies and snacks, this cookbook will guide and help you to serve healthy, delicious and allergen-free meals to your family, relatives and friends. Our favorite recipes are the ‘Sesame Cucumber Ginger Salad' (page 48), ‘Macaroni and Cheese' (page 100) and ‘Heavenly Coconut Cake' (page 136).

I will recommend people living with food allergies or food intolerances to refer to this book for inspiration and reference, and I strongly agree with the author' note that ‘If you are expecting a recipe book for easy, wholesome, homemade meals that your entire family can enjoy together that are free of wheat, eggs, milk, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, fish and shellfish, then you are the type of family this book is catering to (page 12).'

Finally, if you are looking to sample or preview her recipes, you can browse the book online and purchase a paperback version and / or an electronic version. Also, the author posted monthly, a recipe under the ‘Recipe of the month' section and with her permission, we have added on our Recipes page, a yummy and delicious Chocolate Cake recipe.
